The engine has been rebuilt by
Glenn's MG Repair and readied for installation.
Black
is the correct color for the '72 year. I highly recommend Glenn for any
work you might need for your MG! We have the overdrive transmission mated up and we're set
to lift the assembly into the car. We got it into into the engine bay without a single scratch!
Our plan was to get the engine into the bay so we can bolt up the wings,
doors, and bonnet and it was much easier to do this without
having to reach over the front wings.
Before and after!
I decided to use the original carbs,
which ran pretty
well. They are shown here before a clean-up and gasket replacement.
The bushings all look pretty good so we'll leave those alone right now.
Thirty years of varnish build up in the float bowls. A little elbow
grease and these cleaned up nicely. After replacing all possible gaskets, cleaning the float
bowls, and a little cleaning and polishing on the carb body and dashpot, it
looks great. Left one is done, now the other...
Here, we've repositioned the doors and wings and a new
valence. I needed a new LH side wing and the one you see
mounted here is an OE version from Moss. Earlier, I purchased an
aftermarket wing that just did not fit. Lesson learned - you get what you
pay for. The labor required to make the aftermarket version fit would
exceed the purchase of the OE version. Save your energy and buy the
British Heritage Approved panels. You won't be sorry.
Another
coat of primer and wet sanded with 400 grit. We
will spray the finish paint this weekend, August 24, 2002. Only four years
since I brought it home!
